Michael Evans

Michael graduated from Cambridge University with an Honours degree in French, Spanish and Portuguese. He trained at Hobson Audley Hopkins and Wood and qualified in 1999, continuing with the firm through their merger with Minneapolis-based Faegre & Benson LLP. Michael joined Davenport Lyons as a Partner in 2008. Michael had a 15-year career in publishing and television before qualifying as a solicitor.

Michael‘s practice focuses on general commercial law, information technology and intellectual property. He is an experienced commercial negotiator and advisor in public and private sector transactions, and a qualified mediator.

Recent experience includes

  • Advising on a wide range of international trade, agency and competition issues.
  • Drafting and negotiating supply agreements and terms of purchase, advising in connection with tender documents and requests for proposals.
  • Advising on and negotiating service level agreements, project management, performance monitoring and service deductions.
  • Drafting and negotiating supply and licensing agreements under the NHS IT procurement program.
  • Drafting agreements for computer game software developers and licensing agreements for magazine and book publishers.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements for outsourced sales and administrative functions.

Michael has written articles for publications in the fields of IT, IP and publishing including Copyright World, IT adviser and The Bookseller. He is a regular contributor to the media law column in The Guardian. Michael is also a member of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) mediation panel.
