About Us

Iain Benson

Iain graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1998 with an Honours Degree in Law.  He trained at Bates & Partners and qualified in 2001 before joining Davenport Lyons in 2005.  In 2011 Iain successfully completed a Masters Degree in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King’s College, London.  He is currently an Associate.

Iain’s practice focuses predominantly on property and construction law matters pertaining to central London mixed use developments.  Iain continues to act for a number of major UK developers and funders.

Recent experience includes:

  • Advising in relation to property matters on the structuring and disposal of a central London mixed use development comprising 155 luxury apartments and 270,000 square feet prime rental office space.
  • Acting for a large joint venture property company in connection with a disposal of residential apartments at a landmark Southbank location.
  • Advising central London developer in connection with the structuring of the construction and disposal of a London Residential Development.
  • Advising residential developers’ contractual forms of construction procurement, amendments to JCT forms of contract and sub-contracts.  Drafting and negotiating forms of collateral warranties with the developer’s professional team.  Drafting novation agreements and reviewing and advising on contractors’ parent company guarantees.
  • Acting for Banks with respect to the provision of development finance including the production of bank standard forms of collateral warranties and building contract amendments.  Advising Banks on the perfection of their security with respect to construction documentation.

Iain is currently a member of the Law Society and the Society of Construction Lawyers.

In this spare time he likes going to the gym, outdoor pursuits and scuba diving.
