Laura Livingstone
Laura graduated from Bristol University in 1989 with an Honours degree in History. She trained at Taylor Joynson Garrett (now Taylor Wessing LLP) and qualified in 1992. Laura was an Associate at Taylor Wessing LLP before joining Davenport Lyons as a Partner in 2008.
Laura’s practice focuses on contentious and non-contentious employment work but she leans towards the non-contentious. She has advised a wide variety of corporate clients ranging from luxury goods, car manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceuticals and IT. She has also dealt with a number of high net worth individuals in negotiations on contracts and settlements. She has dealt with and advised on all areas of employment including the following:
Recent experience includes:
- Mergers and acquisitions including sales of insolvent companies and companies out of administration;
- Providing advice in relation to the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 including outsourcing (service provision change) and the insolvency provisions;
- Advising on large and small scale redundancy exercises including coaching directors and managers on the processes involved;
- Negotiating and advising on the termination of executives including advising boards of directors on how to conduct the process in the most sensitive way;
- Providing HR managers and directors with day-to-day support on all aspects of dealing with all manner of employee difficulties ranging from stress related illness, serious performance issues, inter employee relationships and the commercial problems associated with flexible working/maternity. This has also included preparing tribunal proceedings following receipt of employee claims.
Laura has given extensive talks for both internal and external audiences, which have included providing tailor-made workshops for clients on a number of different issues including redundancies, disciplinaries and discrimination. She has given external talks on TUPE and has spoken at a seminar on future trends to a number of architect’s practices at RIBA. Recently she gave a seminar to retail clients on absence relating to both illness and external unexpected factors in conjunction with the Head of Department, Marie van der Zyl. Articles written of late include an opinion piece on Restrictive Covenants for Personnel Today, an article on redundancy for FT Wealth magazine an article on flexible working for Employer’s Law and provided responses to questions on bonuses for the Spears’ Wealth Management Survey website. She also contributes regularly to the “Ask the Expert” questions as one of a panel of experts for the Working Mums website – a subject close to her heart.
