About Us
Julia is a senior litigation assistant who joined Davenport Lyons as a trainee in 1998, qualifying in October 2000 and became an Associate in July 2005.


Julia has a wide range of experience of dealing with contractual and commercial disputes both in the High Court and through negotiations and ADR, including breach of contract claims, applications for Judicial Review and media related disputes. She has also had experience of dealing with breach of copyright claims and confidential information/trade secret disputes. Julia has acted for a variety of high profile clients such as French Connection, Mirror Group Newspapers Limited, Music Sales Limited, Penguin Books, Amnesty International, and News Group Newspapers.

Some recent cases that Julia has been involved in are:

  • Acting for Bodydoctor Fitness Limited (trainers to Sophie Dahl, Rio Ferdinand and Ant & Dec) in respect of a dispute over a sponsorship agreement with AXA/PPP Healthcare.
  • Acting for Tanmarsh Communications Limited and its subsidiary Peakviewing (Interactive) Limited in the first proceedings involving the interpretation of the Films Act 1985 and the extent of the Secretary of State's powers under it to refuse to certify films as "British". This case has had a significant impact on the British Film Industry.
  • Advising The Guildford School of Acting in relation to challenging the legality of a decision by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to withdraw its funding.
  • Acting for Mike Medavoy's production company, Phoenix Pictures Inc, in a claim by XL Re Insurance of Bermuda in the Commercial Court in London arising out of insurance backed finance for a number of Phoenix films.
  • Acting for Centria International (a Pennsylvanian partnership) in relation to a dispute over a collection of trade secrets against Corus (formerly British Steel).
  • Acting for Penguin Books in defending a claim by Van Morrison for infringement of copyright.
  • Acting for News Group Newspapers in the recovery of legal fees against Bruce Grobbelaar as a result of his libel action.
