About Us
David Gore graduated from the University of Leicester. After qualifying as a solicitor in 1978, he joined Davenport Lyons' Litigation Department in 1979, where he became a partner in 1982. He left Davenport Lyons in 1988 to join a client company, coming back into the profession in 1989 as a partner in a large provincial firm before rejoining Davenport Lyons as a partner in 1993.

David specialises in commercial and media-related litigation, where he has represented individuals as well as large organisations. He has acted in many high profile cases including:

  • Sting -v- Virgin Music (Publishers) Limited, as a result of which Sting recovered all his copyrights.
  • Bourne Music Limited in a claim by Phil Spector's company, a reported case about ownership of the song "To Know Him Is To Love Him". The case hinged on the interpretation of a standard form US Songwriter's Contract of 1947.
  • French Connection Limited in a claim by Levi Strauss Inc and Levi Strauss (UK) Limited, a reported case under the Trade Marks Act.
  • Mirror Group Newspapers Limited in a claim by a Plaintiff who cannot be named - a reported case which went to the House of Lords on the application of the Limitation Act in libel actions.
  • Frank Warren Promotion's claim against the British Boxing Board of Control, which resulted in a change to the Board's previously restrictive TV policy.
  • Jonathan Dimbleby's claim against News of The World for infringement of copyright arising from the serialisation of his work about Prince Charles.
  • The Gershwin family and Crazy For You Productions in respect of various infringement claims.
  • London Management in respect of a claim about Phantom of The Opera.
  • Fantasy Inc/STAX Inc in respect of various infringement claims.
  • Penguin Books in respect of a copyright infringement claim brought by Van Morrison and his company.
  • Novello and Company Limited in a claim relating to reversionary rights against Keith Prowse Music Publishing Company Limited.
  • Tanmarsh Company Limited in the first challenge under the Films Act to the refusal of the Department of Culture Media and Sport to certify various films.
  • David Marshall (the Body Doctor) in a sponsorship dispute.
  • Acting for some members of Deep Purple in a dispute with their former managers.
  • Acting for CMS Dolphin Limited in the leading reported case of CMS Dolphin v. Simonet on the duties of a director.
  • Other claims for clients including the British Greyhound Racing Board, Chester Music, Dune, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Michael Nyman, Music Sales Limited and Sports Cafe.
