John graduated from The University of Nottingham in 1974 and on completion of the Solicitors’ professional examinations, joined the entertainment and media firm Wright Webb Syrett in 1975 and moved with the firm upon its merger with Davenport Lyons in March 1995.  He became a partner in 1981 and is head of the firm’s Family Law Group.

From the start of his career, John has specialised in the area of family law, attracting an increasing number of matters of substantial importance and value relating to the complex issues arising from the breakdown of relationships.  He has considerable expertise in addressing the impact upon the adults and children involved in a relationship breakdown.

John’s knowledge of the various areas encompassed by this work area is considerable.  It includes a practical everyday working experience of dealing with matters of dissolution of marriages, financial settlements, resolution of issues concerning children’s welfare, applications against States in the event of the premature demise of a party, domestic and international child abduction cases, the obtaining of enforcement orders for children’s repatriation and the preparation of pre-nuptial and co-habitation agreements governing the financial basis upon which couples will operate their future personal relationship.

John regularly instructs the recognised leading members of the specialist Family Law Bar and the specialist forensic accountants now operating in this field of work.

John has been a full member of the Solicitors Family Law Association since its foundation and regularly attends seminars on related subject matter in the fields of the psychology of relationships, their breakdown, the impact upon children and a holistic understanding of the overall dynamics of couples’ relationships and their termination.
