Marie graduated
from Liverpool John Moores University in 1988 and The College
of Law in 1989. She was articled at Courts & Co
between September 1989 and 1991. She then worked for D R
Sheridan & Co and joined the West End firm of Booth
and Blackwell in May 1993, where she specialised in employment
and became a partner in 1995. Booth and Blackwell
merged with the Lincoln’s Inn firm Kingsford Stacey
Blackwell in 1997 where she became Head of the Employment
Unit. She joined the firm in August 2001 as a partner
in the Employment Department and became Head of Department
in May 2004.
Marie is experienced in both
contentious and non-contentious employment work. She
is involved in all aspects of employment law including:
- Drafting and reviewing terms and conditions of employment,
director’s service agreements, policies, procedures
and staff handbooks.
- Executive severance packages and negotiating compromise
agreement.
- Advising in respect of all ongoing employment issues
including sickness absence, gross misconduct, disciplinary
and capability issues.
- Advice relating to mass redundancy programmes.
- Advice relating to maternity issues.
- Advice relating to enforceability of post-termination
restrictions and obtaining and defending injunctions.
- Advising as to employment status, namely employee or
self-employed, consultancy agreements and issues arising.
- Advice in respect of the Permanent Health Insurance
Schemes and potential claims.
- Advice in relation to the
Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment)
Regulations 2006 and automatic unfair dismissals.
- Corporate support for mergers, acquisitions, disposals
and outsourcing.
- Harmonisation of terms and conditions of employment
following acquisition.
- Trade Unions.
- Defending all types of claims for unfair
dismissal.
- Defending breach of contract claims.
- Defending complex claims for sex, sexual orientation,
race, disability, age and religious discrimination and
victimisation.
