Michael graduated from Nottingham Trent University
(then Trent Polytechnic) in 1986. He joined Gamlens
as a trainee solicitor, qualified as a solicitor in May
1988 and joined Davenport Lyons as an assistant in the
corporate department in September 1988. Michael became
a partner in 1990 and is currently head of the corporate
department.
Michael particularly enjoys advising businesses on
strategy, structures, acting on joint ventures and cooperation
agreements, as well as acting on business and share sales
and purchases. Michael is also active in the corporate
finance and private equity arena.
Michael advises principally on the following:
- Business and share sale and purchases – many
international.
- Advising on joint ventures and co-operation agreements – many
international.
- Advising companies receiving investments or investors
making investments.
- Business strategy.
- Resolving complex disputes.
Michael is a former President of Globalaw, the international
network of over 85 independent law firms comprising
over 4000 lawyers. Davenport Lyons is the English
member of Globalaw.
Michael frequently acts on large international transactions
co-operating with and co-ordinating large numbers of
lawyers on specific transactions.
During 2004-6 he acted on in excess of US$900m of
international transactions and increasingly acts as
advisor to high net worth individuals globally on their
business and personal matters.
Michael loves sailing and skiing and his family (though
not necessarily in that order!). Michael speaks
fluent French and basic Danish.
