| Paul
studied at St Peter’s College, Oxford where
he was awarded an Exhibition in History before graduating
in 1994. He then took up a Fellowship at Wake Forest
University in North Carolina, where he graduated
with an MA in History. Joining Davenport Lyons in
September 1998 as a trainee solicitor, he qualified
in September 2000. Paul became an Associate in July
2005 and a Partner in July 2007 in the Corporate
Department. His recent experience includes:
- Corporate mergers and acquisitions, including
acting for: the Guardian Media Group on the acquisition
of various commercial radio stations, Capco Group
LLC on the acquisition of the UK’s leading
film sales agency Capitol Films Ltd, the owners
of Screentime Partners Limited on its disposal to
Shed Productions plc, the owners of Serpent’s
Tail Limited on its disposal to Profile Books Limited,
and Centaur Communications on the acquisition of
various titles;
- Structuring corporate and partnership vehicles
for tax efficient offerings e.g. film partnerships
for Smith & Williamson and Regent Capital plc);
- Corporate finance – private placings and
public offerings (often within a tax efficient wrapper,
such as EIS);
- Structuring investment vehicles (including bespoke
hedge fund structures);
- Financial services regulatory advice;
- Private equity arrangements;
- Joint Ventures;
- Group re-structuring;
- Distressed M&A work; and
- Other general company and commercial matters.
