Roger
graduated from University College London. Having originally
trained with Herbert Smith, he joined The Simkins Partnership
in 1996 as a partner. He joined Davenport Lyons in 2008
as a partner in the Contentious Rights & Dispute
Resolution Department.
Roger specialises in litigation dealing with a wide range of contractual and
intellectual property disputes particularly within the film, sports and publishing
sectors. He has acted on a number of complex and high profile matters including:
- The successful claim by The Recorded Picture
Company against Grosvenor Park arising from their
joint venture to exploit tax driven film investment
schemes
- A similar claim by Matrix Group against Mo
Yusef
- A series of claims by Turner Page Music arising
from their acquisition of The BBC Television
Theatre, its re-development as The Shepherds
Bush Empire and its sale to Break for The Border
- The successful conclusion of a claim by Paul
Nicholls and David Ian against Robert Stigwood
in connection with the rights to the stage play
of Grease
- The high profile whistleblowing and professional
negligence claims of city analyst James Middleweek
against Collins Stewart and his own legal advisers
- The successful conclusion of claims by EPIC
against the Department of Health for breach of
contract arising from database rights
- Acting for Premier Rugby in relation to a variety
of claims including the successful defense of
a claim by Rotherham RFC involving issues of
promotion and relegation
- Acting for West Ham United in respect of claims
arising from the re-building of a stand at their
grounds
- Acting for NASDAQ company, Doubleclick Inc
in relation to the successful establishment of
claims arising from the insolvency of internet
betting company, Sport.com
- Acting for Jeremy Paxman and Jung Chang in
claims against their respective agents
In addition
to the above Roger has acted in claims for The
