West End Law firm, Davenport Lyons, continues to build
on its recent recruitment and is expanding its tax capabilities
with the arrival of Roger Bindschedler.
Roger has been involved
in tax since 1988 and converted to law in 1998. Since
January 2006 he was head of tax at Howard Kennedy where
he built up a team of internal and external tax lawyers
to support transactional work enabling him to specialise
in tax structures.
Prior to that, he
spent 10 years with Customs and Excise, three years with
KPMG and four years at City law firm, Richards Butler.
His repertoire includes advising overseas investors in
UK businesses, moving UK businesses to beneficial tax
environments, mitigation of capital gains tax, maximising
benefits to business owners, various uses for employee
benefit trusts, business profit extraction and trying
not to upset HMRC too much in relation to SDLT and film
finance structures.
In addition to increasing
Davenport Lyons' tax support to its existing business clients,
Roger will be focused on longer-term tax strategies to
enable business owners to maximise post-tax values and
prepare for exit strategies and tax efficient re-investment
in subsequent projects.
Roger is a committee member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioner's
group and a member of the VAT Practitioner's Group.
On joining the firm
Roger states "Having spent time acting
for the taxman, the taxpayer and on both sides of
the tax industry (accountants and lawyers), I can see the
wider picture when advising clients and speak the taxman's
language. Tax is a great area in which to practice. It
is ever-changing and always stimulating. I am particularly
excited to be joining an expanding and successful international
business law firm such as Davenport Lyons.
Michael Hatchwell, head of the corporate department at
Davenport Lyons, added: “Our corporate department has experienced
steady growth recently. Roger is the second senior
appointment in as many months, and we are delighted to attract
a partner of his calibre. We look forward to putting his
many talents to good use at Davenport Lyons.”
