The Government have launched a new
campaign to target licensed premises that sell alcohol
in breach of the licensing laws. The campaign is designed
to encourage premises to comply with the law and it
is hoped that it will lead to a reduction in anti-social
behaviour and alcohol fuelled violence in the run up
to Christmas.
Plain clothed police officers will
visit licensed premises and will be paying close attention
to sales of alcohol to under 18s. The police
will also be aiming to gather evidence of poorly managed
premises to support a range of further actions including
imposing extra conditions on licences.
Premises that are found to have broken
the law will be prosecuted or their licence reviewed. A
fixed penalty notice of £80 will be issued to
anybody that knowingly sells alcohol to a person who
is drunk or for the sale of alcohol to under 18s.
The campaign will run until 23 December. Please
be extra vigilant over the Christmas season.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year from the Licensing Department of Davenport
Lyons.
