Richard Moxon
led a team in 2004 including partner, Martin Haines and paralegal
Deborah Scragg, in advising Navidi-Wilde Productions the UK
Co-Producer of the film version of Shakespeare's The Merchant
of Venice written and directed by Michael Radford and
boasting a stellar ensemble cast including Al Pacino, Joseph
Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Lynn Collins, Mackenzie Crook, Kris
Marshall, John Sessions, Gregor Fisher and Allan Corduner
to name but a few.
An independent (non-studio) Film, Merchant of Venice
was made as a UK/Luxembourg/Italy co-production between the
Navidi-Wilde, Deluxe Productions and Immagine e Cinema in
association with Spice Factory Limited, the UK Film Council,
Film Fund Luxembourg, Instituto Luce, Avenue Pictures Productions
and Dania Film under the European Convention on Cinematographic
Co-Production. The Solicitors advised on the various complexities
of this multi-party venture including the negotiation and
drafting of various funding and financing agreements including
Co-Production, Interparty and Commissioning Agreements.
Principal photography took place in the UK, Italy and Luxembourg and DL also advised on the various production agreements (including Artists', Composer, Director, and Individual Producer Agreements). Theatrically released through Sony Pictures Classics/MGM and Optimum Releasing the Firm's work also included distribution agreements granting Worldwide rights to Movision with Arclight Films International Pty Ltd as the International Sales Agent and pre-sales to Paradise, Manga Films SL and Gulf Film.
