Rent Deposit Rules – Landlords BEWARE! - 14 Sep 2010
The Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) places obligations on residential landlords to hold their tenant’s deposits in an authorised deposit scheme. The purpose of these rules is to ensure a landlord remains fully accountable for the tenant’s deposit. Since its introduction in 2007, the TDS has applied to “assured shorthold tenancies” (AST) - residential tenancies where the annual rental income is £25,000 or less.
