Davenport Lyons advises on new research and funding portal for the scientific community

13 Dec 2010

Davenport Lyons has advised one of the world’s largest publishers, Macmillan Publishers (Macmillan) on its investment in Symplectic Limited (Symplectic).

The investment is part of Macmillan’s launch of Digital Science (http://www.digital-science.com/). Digital Science will be providing software tools and services to scientists, managers and funders with the ultimate aim of making research more productive through the use of technology.

The Davenport Lyons team of corporate partner Max Gower and associate Richard Elliott advised Macmillan on the investment and shareholders’ agreement.

Talking about the investment, Max Gower said: “As well as providing research tools to the scientific community, Digital Science has pledged to support start-up businesses as well as continuing to develop their own software tools. We see this launch as a very positive addition to the Macmillan portfolio and were delighted to have helped them to achieve this.”

Symplectic is Macmillan’s UK based partner for Digital Science. They specialise in software that tracks research contributions to aid in assessments and reporting. The existing shareholders of Symplectic were advised by Ben Whitelock of Wiggin LLP.
