2.5% increase in National Minimum Wage in October 2011

12 Apr 2011

The Government has announced that the national adult minimum wage is to increase by 15p an hour to £6.08 in October 2011.

  • The wages of 18-20 year olds will increase by 6p with their statutory minimum rising to £4.98 an hour;
  • Wages for 16-17 year-olds will rise by 4p to £3.68 an hour; and
  • Apprentice rates will increase by 10p to £2.60 an hour.

Unison said the rise in the adult rate was outstripped by the increasing cost of basic living, while the 10p rise in the apprentice rate would not be enough to help young people hit hard by the recession.
