
New 2 year qualifying period for unfair dismissal set to be for new employees only

The qualifying period for Unfair Dismissal will increase from one to two years on 6 April 2012.
The Government has now confirmed that (subject to Parliamentary approval) the two year period will apply only to employees who join an employer on or after 6 April 2012. Those already employed before that date will retain the current one-year qualifying period.
The regulations confirming these changes are due to be published imminently and we will keep you updated.
